Museum Dorestad

After eight years, Museum Dorestad reopens.
In 2022, the museum moved to a new, historic location: the former town hall of Wijk bij Duurstede. A wonderful place to rediscover the story of Dorestad, this time with even more life, color, and interaction.

Visitors can board Katla’s ship and travel back to the early Middle Ages. Here, they meet the residents of Dorestad, who talk about their work, their trade, and their daily lives. Unique archaeological finds and an impressive model bring the old trading town to life.

Commissioned by Podium, I designed the exhibition’s graphic identity. This included not only the icons for interactive games and the integration of interactive maps into furniture, but also the designs for text panels, color palettes for both graphics and space, typography, layout, and visual ambiance. The goal was to not only inform visitors but also allow them to experience something.
